How to Declutter People From Your Life

In the third and final part of my Declutter Your Life series, we will be looking at walking away from people who are not supporting this part of your life journey. Sometimes, we find that someone could be holding us back for one reason or another, and this may be detrimental to our physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.

In the course of our lives, many people cross our path and we will have different relationships with them all. Whether they are colleagues, friends, family or acquaintances, everyone has their own personality and their own way they interact with us, and how they have an impact on our own lives.

I believe we meet different people, at different times of our lives, for very good reason. It might be just for a short while, or they walk alongside us for life. Sometimes this might be to teach us various life lessons, good or not so good. Whoever they are, and whatever they do, we can learn from our relationships with others.

Sadly, from time to time, we may come across someone who doesn’t have good intentions and is not right for the life path we are on. Maybe you have come across someone like this in the past, or you currently have someone in your life who is not supporting you. Although it might sound extreme, sometimes we have to take that step by walking away from people who are having a negative impact on our wellbeing.

There are many ways someone could be having a negative impact on your life. Those who don’t have good intentions may be judgemental, manipulative, controlling or aggressive. You may also come across someone who takes advantage of you, but only for their benefit, with no care for your needs or wellbeing.

Those who don’t have good intentions may have an effect on us, even if they aren’t physically near us. You can read more about this in my Protect Yourself Against Negativity post. I have also included a great exercise to help deflect negative thoughts, words and intentions, that you may wish to use.

If you feel there is someone currently in your life who is not supporting your journey, maybe now is the time to seriously consider stepping away from them. This may not be an easy process, so please consider the best way to do this and make sure it is right for you. If you need help from others, do speak to them and ask for support. If something is worrying you, please talk to someone.

Once you have moved on from someone who wasn’t supporting you or your journey, it’s very important to not hold a grudge. For your own mental wellbeing, forgiving someone is a vital step, even if it doesn’t seem right or come easy to you. Look at the lessons you have learned from the experience you had and allow yourself to see how much stronger you are as a result.
